Two of the largest and well respected companies that offer
flexible coverage for your mobile home insurance needs or modular
home insurance needs.
Modular or Mobile Home Insurance: replacement
cost coverage offered!
Remember this is your home. If
something happens to it you want to be able to replace it. You buy insurance
for peace of mind. This is why we suggest replacement cost coverage where
applicable.
What to look for when selecting mobile home insurance or
modular home insurance in tennessee
or kentucky
- How well does the insurance company understand the needs of manufactured
home owners that need mobile home insurance or modular home insurance? How long have they been
insuring mobile and modular homes? Are they a recognized leader in the industry?
- Is the coverage broad and comprehensive enough to thoroughly protect
your home and personal property or is it a "named peril" policy?
Does it provide personal liability
protection?
- If you suffer a total loss, is the value of your mobile or
modular home subject
to depreciation? Many insurance policies decrease then value of
your home over time, leaving you with a settlement that does not cover
the cost of a new home. You want to be able to go to a mobile
or modular home dealer in tennessee or kentucky and be able to replace your home.
- Can you select a number of optional coverages, or increase policy
limits, so the mobile home insurance or modular home insurance will fully meet your needs?
- How financially stable is the insurance company? Is it among
the best in the industry when it comes to service and commitment to
customers?
- Does the company have a history of quick responses and fast claim
handling? Can you file a claim at any time?
- Is the company providing the mobile home insurance
or modular home insurance expert in handling
catastrophe claims? Will you get the assistance you need in these
situations?

Mobile Home Fire Safety Tips
- Install a smoke detector in every bedroom and hallway of your house
- test regularly and replace batteries every 6 months
- replace detectors every 10 years
- plan and practice an escape fom your home, pick a spot outside the
home to meet.
- have your central heating system maintained yearly
- keep supplemental heating devices away from drapes and other flammable
materials. I know kerosene heaters are popular here in tennessee
and kentucky, but they can cause a fire.
- Do not store flammables under or near your home. I personally
know of a man whose house burned down because of storing flamables near
the home.
There is a perception that mobile
homes are more vunerable to fire than other forms of single family housing.
If your mobile home was built prior to 1976 when the National Manufactured
Home Construction and Safety Standards Act went into effect I could understand.
However, a national fire safety study (by Foremost Insurance) conducted showed that site built
homes are more than twice as likely to experience a fire than manufactured homes.
According to another study the number of fires for site built homes was
17 per 1,000 and only 8 per 1,000 for manufactured homes. The study also showed
that the HUD code had helped significantly.
HUD Code fire resistant features:
- strict standards for flame spread and smoke generation in building
materials
- egress windows in all bedrooms that allow for emergency exit
- no carpeting near furnace or water heater
- smoke detectors
- pipe and vent openings tight-fitted or fire stopped
- minimum of 2 exterior doors
Perception is what is mainly responsible
for it being hard to find mobile home insurance in your area. There are
many companies who discriminate against mobile homes. So they will not
do a mobile home insurance quote. There is very few major companies that
will write a mobile home insurance policy. You want a company with financial
strength. When you have a loss it would be a bad time to find out the
company is in bankruptcy. Is it not better to get a mobile home insurance
quote from a company who has a track record of financial stability and good
management?
